Jonai Manufacturing Co., Ltd. Projection Welding realizes significant cost reduction while maintaining weld strength.

What is Projection Welding?

In projection welding, two metal surfaces are pressed together with an electrode; as a large current flows through it, the metal surfaces are bonded at the contact point as the heat generated by electrical resistance reaches welding temperatures.

Compared to arc welding, where discoloration and oxidation can occur, the period of heat generation is very short and the heat is concentrated on the weld point only, so that almost no discoloration is visible at the weld.

Cost Benefits of Projection Welding

The shorter welding time and the fact that no plating is needed once the welding is finished makes projection welding economically more efficient compared to arc welding.

Weld Strength of Projection Welding

The projection weld is adequately strong for use.
Below are the results of the tensile strength test.

Tensile Strength Test Results

Projection welding offers sufficient tensile strength to withstand over 30 kN of force, the point at which the bolts fastening the lock rings start to warp.

Reliable Quality Control

We are continuously taking measures to improve the welding quality:

  • Sensors attached to the welding equipment allowing exhaustive status checks in real time.
  • The welding current is examined via daily measuring inspections.
The condition of the weld itself is probed via extraction, essentially dismantling the welded object.
  • Weld inspections are conducted by public authorities on a regular basis.
On-site Destructive Testing and Test Articles

Ruptures occurred, but in all cases it was a rupture of the base material, with no loosening or peeling of the weld join.
